ASIAN MARKET NEWS 23 FEBRUARY 2016

Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 0.76 percent, while the broader Topix index added 0.46 percent. The Japanese yen remained strong against the dollar, with the dollar-yen pair remaining around the 112-handle at 112.86 in morning trade. Across the Korean Strait, the Kospi was up 0.24 percent.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was flat, as most sectors traded down. The energy and materials sectors, however, were up, gaining 1.17 and 1.06 percent respectively.
