The Dow Jones industrial average closed up
21.57 points, or 0.12 percent, to 17,623.87, the S&P 500 gained 2.02
points, or 0.1 percent, to 2,051.6 and the Nasdaq Composite had added 13.23
points, or 0.28 percent, to 4,808.87.
Crude prices edged up as data showed a
drawdown at the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery hub for US crude and ahead of
front-month contract expiry in US crude futures.
Valeant shares closed up 7.4 percent to USD
28.98 after it announced the departure of its chief executive officer, and said
billionaire investor Bill Ackman had joined its board, as it tries to cleans up
accounting problems and save its business. US-listed shares of the beleaguered drugmaker
were one of the day's most actively traded.
