Japan's Nikkei 225 index advanced as
dollar-yen ticked up to 120.25 and buoyed most exporter stocks. Blue-chip
Toyota Motor rose 1.1 percent, while Panasonic and Nissan also made gains of 1
percent each.
Fujifilm Holdings bounced up nearly 3
percent following news that it is acquiring U.S. biotechnology firm Cellular
Dynamics International for $307 million.
