Australia's ASX 200 was up 0.54 percent,
boosted by advances in the energy, materials and financials sub-indexes.
Across the Korean Strait, the Kospi wavered
between positive and negative territory before trading down 0.56 percent. In
Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index was up 0.24 percent.
Chinese mainland
markets retreated, with the Shanghai composite down 0.71 percent, while the
